Marcia Aitken Live at Supernova Ska Festival 2026
About This Event
Jamaican lovers rock legend Marcia Aitken comes to Old Point Comfort for the Supernova International Ska Festival 2026 at historic Fort Monroe in Hampton. She takes the Kingston Stage on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM, with two of Virginia’s own joining forces to back her: United Souls Band and LionsBridge.
Aitken was born in Hannah Town, Kingston around 1956 and got her start singing at a school concert at Excelsior High, with Lloyd Parks and We The People backing the students. She went on to record for Joe Gibbs, and in 1977 her version of Alton Ellis’s “I’m Still In Love With You” went to number one in Jamaica and carried far beyond it. That rhythm became one of the most answered records in Jamaican music, running straight through Trinity’s “Three Piece Suit” and Althea and Donna’s “Uptown Top Ranking,” and decades later into Sean Paul and Sasha’s “I’m Still in Love with You.” She topped the Jamaican chart again in 1978 with “My Man,” a duet with Trinity, and released the album Reggae Impact before stepping away from music in 1981 for Brooklyn, a restaurant and more than twenty years of nursing. She came back to recording in 2014 with Conception to Redemption.
Backing her are United Souls Band, the Hampton reggae outfit that has been a fixture of the local scene for years, and LionsBridge out of Newport News, named for the landmark on the James. Sunday on the Kingston Stage puts her between Chris Murray at 2:30 PM and The Planet Smashers at 4:45 PM, with Yellowman closing out the stage at 6:15 PM and Jeff Rosenstock finishing the festival at 8:00 PM. The full weekend bill also includes The English Beat, Derrick Morgan, The Slackers, The Aggrolites, The Pietasters, Bumpin Uglies and Out of Control Army, and the Sunday after party runs 10:30 PM to 2:00 AM with JER, Omnigone, Los Mal Hablados and DJ Mary Mack.
