Studio One Dub Project Live at Ripple Ray’s in Richmond

Venue
Ripple Ray’s
Richmond, VA

The Studio One Dub Project invades Ripple Ray’s in Richmond on Friday, September 18, 2026, playing 9:00 PM to midnight. The show is free.

The Studio One Dub Project is a Richmond ensemble built around instrumental dub reggae pulled straight from the vaults of Studio One in Kingston. Eight players deep, the lineup is Ken Kellner on guitar and vocals, Ryan Harlow on drums, Wayne Obryan on bass, OJ Hunter on keys, Mike Reitz on percussion, Tyler Donnelly on sax, Jonathan Watson on trombone and Matt Graham on guitar. A full horn section on top of a dub rhythm section is not a small thing to get in a bar for free.

Studio One is the label and studio that Clement “Coxsone” Dodd built in Kingston, often called the Motown of Jamaica, and the room where ska turned into rocksteady and rocksteady turned into reggae through the 1960s and 1970s. The catalog the band works from is the foundation of the music, and they play it as instrumental dub, timeless riddims and deep grooves rather than a vocal revue. The group are regulars at Reveler in Scott’s Addition, so a Carytown date is a change of room.

Ripple Ray’s is the Grateful Dead themed bar that opened in Carytown in early 2025, at 3123 West Cary Street, running live music through the week. Dub in a Dead bar is a fair trade, both built on the long version.
